BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
STUDENT LEADERSHIP TRAINING
One intention of the Student Leadership Association of Nova Scotia is to offer student leadership development sessions throughout the province. Plans are currently in development for a one-day leadership training retreat for students' council co-presidents. Member schools will be invited to send their students at no additional cost.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
School student activities advisors and individual members will be kept apprised of upcoming professional development opportunities related to student leadership. Opportunities will be shared on our calendar of events as well as shared with our members via email. The organization ran their first professional development day at the 2018 provincial NSSSA conference - Rise Up. The intention is to host an annual professional development day for student activities advisors the Friday prior to the long weekend in May at St. F. X University.
CONFERENCE LOGITISTICS
The Student Leadership Association of Nova Scotia helps student activities advisors to simplify the logistics of bringing their students to the Canadian Student Leadership Conference. The association works to arrange for group transportation opportunities for students and staff as well as shared accommodations for travelling advisors. This helps to lighten the financial burden on individual schools.
COMMUNITY OF SUPPORT
The Student Leadership Association of Nova Scotia acts as a community of support for student activities advisors. The association was founded by student activities advisors with the intent of supporting fellow advisors and their students. Member schools and individuals will find a group of supportive peers in this association willing to help them to navigate the field trip approval process, registration for student leadership conferences and events, and the organization of multi-school events.
